Electric debit machining as a career work – you have to really pick it!

Guess it removes almost everyone. But almost every thing you take made from plastic is mostly made by the process of electric debit machining. Not many people know it, and even fewer people know whatever I’m talking about. This is one of the hidden jobs that everyone is happy, but doesn’t realize it. The industrial manufacturing plastic injection mold depends on electrical debit machining as the main trading tool.

What is Electric Debit Machinery, aka EDM

To avoid technical jargon and a long explanation, just think about this process:

Press the coin, like nickel, becomes a silly putty or bread mixture until leaving the impression. It will look like a coin, except that it is a mirror image of the design.

That’s how the electric release machine works in one image. Now, imagine you use a very sophisticated computer-controlled machine to cut the image on nickel into a copper, or graphite. Graphite like in you lead a pencil. You can buy high graphite blocks and cut their shapes very easily, and this is actually the most commonly used material for EDM.

Of course it’s cut as a mirror image of what you see on the coin so the final result is correct. Now instead of ridiculous putty, you use a piece of steel. You put brass tube suppliers it on a special table, clamp it, and put the graphite block on it in the stand, like an ancient print press. So graphite rests about steel, which is bound safely to the machine table.

Now, you sink all this in the oil bath and turn on the power supply to make graphite charged with electricity. Gradually it was lowered close to steel to millions of small sparks jumping back and forth between steel and graphite.

After some time, you will see a shape that is cut on graphite reproduced perfectly in steel! It seems like it will never work, but it really works very well. In real life, current and graphite movements are very controlled so that the results that can be predicted to follow. Not infrequently maintained one / eight accuracy of human hair!

Why should EDM operators really be very picky?

This process is mostly a problem gaining everything correctly. The graphite location in relation to steel must be perfect, the electrical setting must be right and the oil must be controlled in the right way too. If one of these aspects is wrong, you will end up with a metal scrap. Not only that, but you might not know it for hours or days because the process is slow and everything is submerged in oil!
